Development of an Integrated Digital Information System for the Collection, Processing and Storage of Mixed Waste Management Data, using a Web Application, and Behavioral Science Gamification Tools
The WISE-MWM project aims to study the behavior of citizens in Greece and to design four (4) distinct interventions based on highly innovative technological solutions (Industry 4.0), with individual subsystems. From the above description it is obvious that the research of the proposed WISE-MWM project is centrally located at the intersection of the following rapidly developing scientific areas of behavioral science and information technologies and proposes an integrated technological solution that
combines a series of best of breed technologies, each of which is decisively involved in shaping a technological ecosystem entirely dedicated to the diversion of waste from the Burial More specifically and briefly, the proposed solution includes: An integrated digital information system (MIS) based on a cloud-based platform that will undertake the central control,
monitoring and reporting of the results of data processing to the management authorities (usually a Local Government Organization – OTA) and all other stakeholders.
The MIS will be the centrally organized access and reporting hub that will collect, interconnect and analyze information and weighing data, while at the same time calculating equivalent financial
and environmental data, so that using gamification tools of behavioral science, it will provide fully updated information to increase awareness and awareness of waste producers. The MIS will also include the following Subsystems, which will be analyzed extensively in the following sections. Subsystem 1: Database (B.D.), Waste Profile Monitoring per Facility and Management of Administrative Operations (BI System) Subsystem 2: Application to mobile devices of the declaration of total landfill load and weighing results of each waste category as they result from the carrying out of random checks Subsystem 3: Advanced Business Intelligence services that will offer with interactive graphics the necessary information for strategic decision making A suite of software tools and Artificial Intelligence algorithms for the processing and analysis of weighing data
produced on a daily basis at landfills.
The use of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence technology enhances the accuracy of weighing measurements and data collection making the program more reliable and efficient, while allowing calculations aimed at future prediction of waste performance in diversion. Computational background of Blockchain technology, through
which the continuous sharing of information through the online ledger of the project will be ensured, the operation of which is based on the computational example of blockchains. According to this computational example, the amount of waste that was sent to landfills will be disclosed at the level of Postal Code, Municipality and Region. Essentially, through the
encryption provided by Blockchain technology, Smart Contracts will be created to ensure the confidentiality and transparency of measurements, characteristics that are particularly critical for increasing the confidence of waste producers. A networking platform for Regions and Municipalities implementing the WISE-MWM program and two-way communication with
citizens (participatory planning, two-way information and information) through encouragement, gamification and framing of the displayed information messages. The platform will process the results of the performance in the diversion displayed by each participant, according to the weighing data produced at the landfill.
